Vote YES for the tax increase on data center equipment. If you want to protect small businesses, then amend the proposal and create a two-tiered tax rate. Data centers get reduced rates on their enormous electric power consumption, while average citizens get ugly power lines/towers; low rates on their stupendous water usage, while we pay for infrastructure and pray that droughts will never be a factor; absurdly low taxes on equipment, while we pay ever higher taxes for lower service levels.
With concerns of PW losing teachers and police to other counties, I'd think the BOCS would want to examine a better balance in collecting taxes on business interests and property taxes on residents. I don't mind an investment in our students and our communities.
Our selling point to businesses is that it costs less to do business here. Slashing property taxes and considerably raising the computer and peripherals tax is short-sighted, does nothing to address funding for schools, and hurts attraction and retention of businesses. Instead, please approve a smaller increase in the computer and peripherals tax to SUPPLANT other revenues and approve the advertised tax rate to help properly fund schools and a step and COLA for school employees.
Please approve the proposed increase in tax rates for data centers. It is utterly insane that our tax rate is so much lower then the surrounding jurisdictions. Furthermore, please approve the cut in the tax rates for homeowners. My taxes have gone up every single year I've lived here - so much so that my SALT taxes exceed the 10,000 maximum set by the IRS. Yep - we live in high tax Virginia an in even higher tax Prince William County. I never thought I'd say that.
I would request that BOCS vote both to increase the data center tax, as proposed by Stewart, and leave the rate for homeowners the same. The added revenue from the data tax center tax is necessary to ensure PWCS teachers and staff are earning competitive salaries. At present, we are underpaying our school professionals compared to the other Northern Virginia counties. Our teachers need to be able to afford to live in our community. Please prioritize teacher pay. Thank you.

Please do not cut the residential tax rate. PWCS cost per pupil is lower compared to our neighboring districts. We need to fully fund our schools!
