Question? With the elevated sensitivities in our country do you have any strategies and plans to build increased trust and inroads into the younger members of the minority communities. Is there some plan to get more than mutual trust but acknowledgement of potential for racial disparities across our country in policing and how the board and police department monitors, trains and executes quality assurance to ensure dignity and respect in PWC and violations are quickly addressed?
Keep an open mind about how to allocate the CARES Act money. The spending needs of our schools and the rest of our government to address the coronavirus itself, economic hardship, and disruptions to in-person gatherings may have very different proportions from their usual budgets. Some may need overtime or special equipment or programs, and some may save money by not fully operating and needing less upkeep. For instance, schools themselves might need software, but save on groundskeeping.
In light of recent protests and the National conversation in respect to the value placed on minority lives, what is the PWC leadership doing to facilitate trust in the community? Consider diversifying your County Service Leadership. Provide regular metrics to the public on complaints about Police Behavior. The Killer of Minneapolis had over 15 previous complaints. How often are the body cams reviewed to ensure we don't have Officers that portray similar behavior. Share the outcome with us.
I must agree with the comment posted by [tracey kasmar] — I urge the board to lobby the governor to divorce PWC from any DC Metro region/Northern Virginia COVID restrictions. This county should transition with greater Virginia phases. We just aren’t a high-density city that might need delayed phasing. Delay kills business and creates unemployment without any evinced benefit.
I echo what others have shared regarding CARES Act funding being devoted to schools, preferably at the prescribed 57% revenue sharing rate. The school system is the largest county employer and whether in school or via distance learning, schools already suffered a budget cut that will not allow them the safety/health resources for the buildings or technology resources for distance learning. I urge you to equip the fantastic PWC school staff and students resources needed to succeed in the fall!
Please honor the BOCS revenue sharing agreement with PWCS in regards to the $41M CARES act funds. This will Aid in Covid Recover for our schools regardless if schools open or stay closed in the fall. The reduced PWCS budget will not cover these needs.
I would like to ask the board continue to follow through in asking Governor Northam in requesting that Prince William County join all of Virginia in going to phase 2 when the time comes.
Please advocate that the BOCS revenue sharing agreement with PWCS be honored and 57% of the $41M CARES Act funds received by the county be allocated to PWCS to help address COVID recovery actions that schools will have to take regardless if schools open or remain closed in the fall. The current, reduced PWCS budget will not cover those needs in either case. To support economic recovery, CARE Act funds should be made available to support PWCS, the largest employer in our county. Thank you.
