N. RES – Direct – The 2021-2024 Strategic Plan Development Team to Strike All Language, References, and Consideration to Defunding the Police or Reallocating Funds Away from the Police from the 2021-2024 Strategic Plan – Supervisor Candland
I do not support defunding the police. We should support our officers. The is no need to move money away from our police departments. Our officers need more training to protect themselves and others in the community, this requires money. Our officers are the back bone of our community we need to support them! 💙
I support the PWC police. Extensive data shows they're overwhelmingly fair and respectful at their essential and tough job. So, don't "defund" them. Nor have I heard a satisfactory argument to reallocate part of their budget. (They train for peripheral needs, too.) BUT the range of public input should be acknowledged - along with statistics, and explanations for agreeing or not. I appreciate our government listening when I've been in the minority and ask the same for the "other side" here.
More training, especially in areas of mental health/drug addiction, proper safety equipment and techniques, and outreach for greater diversity of police force. Support for our police officers in all areas, not decreased support.
I fully support Supervisor Candland's proposal. In fact, I think our county needs to invest more funding into our police department to ensure the highest quality new hires and training, and to properly support current staffing to protect and serve our growing communities.
This resolution is authoritarian. The voices of those most affected must always guide policy and legislation. Minimizing what they can advocate for to be done is undemocratic. Vote against this ridiculousness.
Completely disagree with any effort to defund or decrease funding for the Prince William County Police Department. The brave men and women of the PD deserve our uncompromising support and any effort to defund our PD endangers the citizens safety and well being. This must be stricken from the bill - any effort to defund or decrease police funding.
We need to continue to support our police department. Loss of any current funds to our police could lead to a loss of safety in our community due to the inability to retain good officers and implement programs that benefit the community. We want to help keep important programs running such as the Co-Responder Team, which brings specialized services to citizens struggling with mental health crisis, and ACTS LAP which supports outreach to highly vulnerable domestic violence victims.

Our law enforcement is already stretched too thin, and our communities would crumble if they lost anymore support.
