I support this initiative and I recommend adding another intersection to the pilot program. The intersection at Route 29 and Webb Drive in Gainesville is so dangerous. I have personally witnessed three near misses due to drivers speeding and running the red light on Route 29 southbound lanes. There is a preschool off Webb Drive which is a highly trafficked area during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times. This program will force drivers to slow down and stop on red.

I have seen some aggressive red light running and bad accidents at intersections here. But over-enforcement can be an unfair, unwelcoming, and antagonistic hidden tax, distract drivers from other hazards with a laser focus on the lights and dashboard versus looking all around, and increase rear-end accidents. Please post ongoing data on how sites are selected and maintained, when the program can stop, and alternatives like light timing adjustments and crosswalk (thus green light) timers.
