Arts are a vital part of everyday life. How long do you go without music? How long do you go without breathing? Including this so late in the agenda is a deliberate choice to erode community. Dissolving this council would be a mistake. Please do not do this to your own constituents.
I have played violin and served on the Fundraising and Marketing Committee with the Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra for 3 years and I oppose the dissolution of the Arts Council. Our orchestra has performed for many PWC residents at the annual Arts Alive festival and similar events. We regularly rehearse at local schools, taking advantage of their free use through the Arts Council. Lastly and importantly, a core mission of the orchestra is to increase accessibility to the arts in PWC.
As a cellist of the Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra / MSO, I've witnessed how the Arts Council plays a vital role in sustaining a healthy musical culture in our community fostering cultural connection and accessibility through the annual Arts Alive showcase, facility access and event promotions, allowing nonprofit music organizations to remain active. Dissolving the Council would weaken the cultural infrastructure that supports music enrichment and community engagement in Prince William County.
As a Board Member of the Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra, an institutional member of the Arts Council, I oppose the dissolution of the Arts Council. Through our affiliation with the Arts Council, our orchestra has performed for hundreds of PWC residents at the annual Arts Alive festival, and we take full advantage of the free community use of school facilities through the Arts Council to hold our orchestra rehearsals. The Arts Council is a vital link between arts organizations and citizens of PWC.
Art is a very important component of the culture of Prince William County. It enriches our community.
