I urge the Board to remove this item from the consent agenda and reject demolition of the Old Bennett School at this time.
Consent agendas are intended for routine, noncontroversial matters. Demolishing a 117-year-old historic landmark that has generated significant public interest does not meet that standard.
This decision deserves a full public discussion, meaningful public input, and a fair evaluation of preservation alternatives before any irreversible action is taken.
This proposal of destroying a historic landmark for clearly inflated cost savings is a tragedy that must be avoided. The Bennett School has such a rich and important history that must be preserved, as it is, for future generations, no matter how much it costs. Save The Old Bennett School!
