7.E) Rezoning - #REZ2018-00007, The Flats at Westminster at Lake Ridge - Occoquan Magisterial District - Scott Meyer, Planning - Mobility, Economic Growth, and Resiliency
I share concerns on existing safety and potential impacts of the expansion. Westminster advertises “continuum of care” including assisted living and skilled nursing care. If the re-zoning is effectively allowing expansion of a Continuing Care Complex I believe it should only come after the Board has been satisfied on the impact of the proposal to care and safety throughout the complex including the ability to place residents in the appropriate care (on which I believe the petition is silent).
I oppose Reasoning #REZ2018-00007. Safety of Westminster residents must be top priority before any new development. It’s unethical to expand while current conditions remain unsafe. My public high school has better precautions—on inclement weather days, students stay home, yet Westminster lets vulnerable residents like my grandfather outside in extreme heat. Residents and families deserve and expect ensured safety. Please prioritize our beloved residents safety with stronger security measures.
I oppose this move to add more residents to the beautiful Westminster of Lake Ridge campus until this organization can show that resident safety is a top concern inside and outside of the campus buildings. Please consider the safety of this vulnerable class. For instance, there are no known procedures to ensure that higher risk folks don’t exit the main building during heat advisory days and when they do, there is no visible security on this campus to ensure their well being. Do what’s right!
I oppose Rezoning #REZ2018-00007. Ensuring the safety of current Westminster residents should take precedence over any expansion plans. Security measures remain inadequate, despite previous incidents highlighting serious lapses in care. Moving forward with new development without first resolving these issues endangers an already vulnerable population and further strains the existing care infrastructure.
I oppose Rezoning #REZ2018-00007. Protecting the safety of current residents at Westminster must come before expanding the facility. There has been no meaningful increase in security measures, despite past incidents. Approving new development without addressing these safety concerns first risks worsening an already fragile care environment and puts vulnerable individuals at even greater risk.
I oppose #REZ2018-00007 because I believe the community should focus on addressing existing needs before considering any expansion. Resident safety and quality of care must be prioritized. Residents are investing significant financial resources and spending some of the most vulnerable years of their lives here, their well-being must come first.
I oppose #REZ2018-00007. This area already has a lack of security. Expanding this neighborhood without prioritizing the safety of current residents would only worsen the situation. The principal focus should be prioritizing the safety of the residents that currently reside there. Please deny this application.
I oppose the rezoning for The Flats at Westminster. The site raises serious safety concerns—there was a shooting here in April. Increased traffic at Clipper and Mariner will worsen already dangerous conditions. The land also contains steep, erodible slopes and mature forest that help prevent runoff. This development adds density without adequate infrastructure or safety measures. Please prioritize public safety and vote no.
I oppose #REZ2018-00007. The proposed density is incompatible with the area, worsens traffic, strains infrastructure, and threatens the environment. Following recent gun violence at Westminster, community safety must come first. This project adds risk and ignores those concerns. Please prioritize safety and deny this application
